Marketing Training for Creative Businesses
Helping creative businesses improve their marketing
We have worked with a number of organisations to support creative businesses with specialised marketing training, which has been very well received.
As a creative business, you’re passionate about what you do and your energy is channelled into making, designing and exploring new techniques. That doesn’t leave much time for marketing your work!
And perhaps you just don’t know where to start – should you be exhibiting at galleries, shows, exhibitions, and craft fairs, or getting press coverage and optimising your website?
What clients say about our training
We have facilitated marketing training for groups of artists and crafts people to help them promote and sell their work. These can be one-off sessions, or courses running for half a day over 6 weeks. Here is some of the feedback we have received:
“Creatives and business training can be a difficult partnership but the friendly yet gently persuasive, non judgemental approach of Beryl Pettitt and Trevor Sparks and has been pivotal in bonding the group, forming friendships and developing an open atmosphere. They have understood the difficulties that artists face when confronted with business issues, and we’ve all benefited tremendously. I would urge anyone trying to make a living in the arts to undertake such training, and would recommend Beryl and Trevor without hesitation. We could all too easily have been ‘turned off’ by the wrong approach. They got the pitch just right!” Magie Hollingworth, paper and textile artist.
“Most certainly the course exceeded anything I imagined – the easy, personal approach made it easy to participate” Bridget Flemming, photographer.
“All of the work exceeded given targets, was of very high quality, and was organised and delivered professionally and on time. Feedback from participants was extremely good and you were careful to run lively, interactive sessions, directly addressing the stated needs of participants.” Kate Foale, Enterprise Development Team, Nottinghamshire County Council, following the completion of the Nottinghamshire Collection networking and training project.

“After attending Beryl's course on writing a press release, I followed her suggested procedure and lo and behold my first one was published with hardly any changes. Very happy indeed and well worth attending the course.”

“I recently attended a workshop that Beryl ran which I would recommend to anyone wanting to improve their business marketing. Beryl has a structured way to take you through the marketing of your business, covering all of the essentials and giving a great overview of many areas of marketing. “We use a combination of high profile events and email campaigns to promote Insolvency Squared. Beryl works with us to design and write the regular Mailchimp email campaigns. Although I know what I want to say, I struggle to find the right words - she finds the right tone of voice to talk to our market, and I get great response rates and feedback from potential clients.”
Karyn Jones, Managing Director, Insolvency Squared
“When we set up our micro-brewery we had plenty of business experience, but none of marketing or PR. Beryl helped us structure our website, write the copy and plan a launch event. She also wrote news releases and articles which got us coverage in both the local press and national real ale magazines, all of which helped quickly establish the brewery’s name in the area.”
Mary Easterbrook, Pheasantry Brewery
"The workshop was extremely practical, ‘hands on’ and relevant to our business. Beryl was always able to answer our specific questions or demonstrate particular techniques ‘on the hoof’. We were immediately able to put what had learned into practice, noticing a much greater level and quality of Social Media activity."
Steve Harrison, Managing Director, Deli & Dine Ltd

"Beryl is a great trainer, she has worked with the Food and Drink Forum delivering amazing courses for our producers for a while. Her ability to adapt her marketing knowledge and expertise to our sector has been outstanding, to hear Beryl in action would make you think this was her key area of work. Beryl takes time before each course to find out about her delegates and really tailors the course to their specific needs, with tremendous success. Beryl we are lucky to have you as a friend of the forum!"
